Wet Chemical Analysis
Wet Chemical Analysis (or Wet chemistry) refers to chemistry done in the liquid phase.
Wet chemistry is utilized at ITS for identifying and quantifying the elements in metals when optical emission spectroscopy and atomic absorption spectroscopy cannot be reliably performed on a sample. One such example would be filings from an old Cast Iron column in an eighty-five year old building. Wet chemical analysis is also performed as a referee method when controversial results from the other techniques are noted.

Wet chemistry can be performed for coating identification, qualitative chemical measurements like colorimetry (changes in color), other processes like titrimetry and gravimetry. Wet Chemical Analysis could be done to find the following:
- Specific gravity
- Moisture
- Conductivity
- pH
- Salinity
- Density
- Viscosity
- Cloud point
- Concentration
- Turbidity
Some of the ASTM standards utilized at ITS for performing Wet Chemical analysis are:
- B 767 - Standard Guide for Determining Mass Per Unit Area of Electrodeposited and Related Coatings by Gravimetric and Other Chemical Analysis Procedure.
- C 738 - Standard Test Method for Lead and Cadmium Extracted from Glazed ceramic Surfaces.
